Popeye’s Chicken Sandwich Is Back

If you didn’t get the chance to try the new Popeyes chicken sandwich we’ve got great news! Popeyes has just announced that they are bringing back the chicken sandwich on Sunday, November 3.

Yes, you read that right. Popeyes is firing shots at their competitor Chick-fil-a once again by making their release date on a Sunday when Chick-fil-a is known to be closed. 

 

Popeyes began selling their sandwich August 12th but all of Popeyes’ buzz started from a simple response to Chick-fil-a on twitter. After Chick-fil-a had posted a tweet talking about how they had the original chicken sandwich Popeyes hit back with their response creating the “chicken sandwich war”. Shortly after media outlets began joining in with taste-testings and articles. 

Accoring to a recent Forbes article, it had been estimated that Popeyes had earned the equivalent of $23 million in free advertisement in 15 days but by the end of August, the estimate had changed to $65 million.

If you have any doubt about the power of social media let this be an example of how much reach it has. Brands are turning to twitter and other social media networks to create brand awareness and advertise new products. Not only is social media often more effective than traditional advertising it is also a lot cheaper and easier to track.

After only a few weeks Popeyes sold out of their chicken sandwich nationwide and made a promise to bring it back. While America waited for the return of the sandwich Popeyes tried to extend the life of all the attention they were getting. Popeyes began to advertise BYOB, bring your own bun. This campaign, however, did not receive much traction.

Now, the question arises, will Popeyes be as successful with their new release as they were with their first?
